Accounting Degrees
There are many accounting degrees available depending on the kind of accountant
you want to be. Many accountants work privately, while many others work for
businesses to manage their day to day finances as well as their taxes at
the end of the year. You can choose what kind of accounting degree best suits
your needs, whether you want to be a CPA, a management accountant, an internal
auditor or a governmental auditor.
Certain accounting degrees will enable you to help businesses keep track
of income and assets, prepare financial statements, asses cost, and advise
business on tax strategies. You will also be able to set up information systems
to keep track of financial performance, analyze cost and risk and to prepare
tax statements. Accounting degrees are given to those who pass the relevant
exams and many students take the exams several times before they finally
are able to obtain their accounting degrees.
Accounting schools offer basic and advanced courses which can be taken individually
or requirements for accounting degrees. Introductory classes include: introduction
to financial statements, introduction to federal taxation, principles of
auditing, analysis of financial statements, and account information systems.
Usually accounting degrees for CPAs do not require years of study and can
be obtained through taking night classes and completing an exam at
the end of the year. This can be combined with a full-time job during the
day, and few CPAs have outstanding debts from their training. However, higher
paying jobs with companies usually require more advanced accounting degrees,
work at a prestigious company usually requires accounting degrees from top
institutions. To land these jobs, it is worth the investment of time and
money to obtain an accounting degree which will command a higher salary than
that of a regular CPA. Student loans and scholarships are often available
for students working towards these accounting degrees.
